Description
The Marchand & Burch Chardonnay is traditionally sourced from two of the oldest vineyard plantings in the Porongurup sub-region of the Great Southern. This region takes in name form the ancient, granitic bolder-like landform that rises from the surrounding landscape. Each vineyard sits high on opposing shoulders of this volcanic outcrop, in soils formed by the weathering of the softer rocks surrounding the range. å The vineyards are planted to the Gin Gin clone of Chardonnay and as such yields are typically low and berry size irregular. In 2013, only the cooler south facing site, at 226M of elevation was selected for the wine. An expressive bouquet of meringue and cr̬me brulee mixed with scents of pear, honeysuckle and lemon curd. The palate has a spring water weight whilst delivering a power of fruits with stone and tropical notes. In the mouth the wine is textural and silky yet tight with a fine mineral like acidity.
